In March, a new pattern appeared in my Instagram feed: Cloudbow. It was love at first sight. The image of this light, airy, blue and white striped peplum top filled my mind. I had to make it.
Pattern and Yarn
The pattern was featured in Issue 40 of Pom Pom Quarterly and the design is by Reed Keyes. I briefly considered choosing other colours, but I loved the look of the blue and white so much. These days, I often knit from my stash, but I didn’t have much mohair yarn. It was a great excuse to buy some hand-dyed yarn! I ended up finding this beautiful blue hand-dyed mohair from Bon Voyage, which is dyed in Fukuoka Japan. Isn’t it beautiful?
To go with the blue, I also had some white mohair yarn that I’d bought from the yarn store a few years ago. As much as I wanted to start knitting immediately, I had other projects on the needles. So, I decided it would be my birthday cast on! (I actually ended up casting on a week after my birthday though)
Cloudbow Knitting and Modifications
I cast on my Cloudbow on the 7th of May and finished it around the 6th of June. Although it took me about 4 weeks to finish, the actual knitting time was much less. Lace-weight mohair knits up very quickly when you’re using large needles!
In the end, I made a few minor modifications, such as making the cuffs tighter and I made the back of the peplum longer using German short rows. Want to see how this gorgeous peplum pullover moves? You can view some videos on my Instagram!
